Tracking Progress
Understanding work order statuses and how to track job progress through completion in Simple Time.
Tracking Progress
Simple Time uses statuses to help you track where each work order stands. As a job moves from planning through to completion, its status updates to reflect the current stage.
Work Order Statuses
Draft
A newly created work order starts as a draft. This means it is still being set up and has not been scheduled or started yet. Use draft status while you are finalizing details, adding line items, or waiting for client confirmation.
Scheduled
Once a work order has a date and assigned team members, you can move it to scheduled. This signals that the job is planned and your team can see it in their upcoming work.
In Progress
When work begins on a job, the status moves to in progress. Team members can clock in against the work order, and time entries start being recorded. This status gives you real-time visibility that the job is actively being worked on.
Completed
When the job is finished, mark the work order as completed. This locks in the time entries and signals that no further work is expected. Completed work orders remain accessible for review, reporting, and invoicing.
Updating Status
To change a work order's status:
- Open the work order.
- Use the status control to select the new status.
- Save your changes.
Managers and owners can update the status of any work order. Workers can update the status of work orders they are assigned to.
Filtering by Status
On the work orders list, you can filter by status to quickly find jobs that need attention. For example, filter by "In Progress" to see all active jobs, or by "Draft" to review work orders that still need to be finalized.
